FTII former director Prof. John Sankaramangalam dead
Thiruvalla: Veteran film personality Prof. John Sankaramangalam (84) died at a hospital here on Monday. He died due to age-related illness. He was the former director of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. In his long career in the film field, John won two National awards and four Kerala State Film Awards. He also served as the chairman and jury of many national and international film festivals.

He was also an executive member of the CILECT (Centre for International de Liaison des Ecoles de Cinema et de television), an association of world's major film and television schools founded in Cannes in 1995 and was the former vice chairman of Kerala Chalachithra Academy.

Born at Eraviperoor he completed his college education at the SB College and the Madras Christian College. After that he became a teacher.

Following his passion he joined FTII. After completing the diploma from there, he stepped in to the film industry and did the movies Saramsham, Samandaram, Aval Alpam Vaikipoyi and Janma Bhoomi. He debuted into the industry by writing for Jayasree, a tamil movie.

Besides that he did several documentaries for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
