Temple entry for non-Hindus: Debate kicks up in state

..." All those who believe in temple rituals must be allowed inside. I expect Devaswom board's support in the matter. A 1952 order needs to be amended for it", Tharayil said...

(Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 9, 2017, DG); Devaswom Board member Ajay Tharayil has demanded permission for non-Hindus to enter temples.

" All those who believe in temple rituals must be allowed inside. I expect Devaswom board's support in the matter. A 1952 order needs to be amended for it", Tharayil said.

BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan reacted by saying that it is upto Hindu outfits in the state to decide. He also asked such outfits to come together and discuss the issue.

Travancore Devaswom board president Prayar Gopalakrishnan too ruled out a unilateral decision in the matter. It needs to be discussed with other Devaswom boards and tanthris, he added.

However, Devaswom board minister Kadakampally Ramachandran dismissed the idea as irrelevant. He said that all temples except Guruvayoor allow non-Hindus inside and Tharayil's statement would only leadto totally unnecessary discussions.
