Karunanidhi’s health declining, next 24 hours crucial, says latest medical bulletin; India prays for DMK chief
Chennai: The latest medical bulletin released by the Kauvery Hospital on Monday suggested that there was a decline in the medical condition of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi. Earlier today, sources had told Times Now that the health condition of the DMK chief was critical. There was an improvement in the DMK chief’s health condition last week, but the latest medical bulletin said maintaining the functioning of the vital organs was a challenge.

Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi is by the side of her father. Earlier today, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president S Thirunavukkarasar had said that following a setback earlier today, Karunanidhi's health was stable and improving.

Senior leaders of DMK, such as general secretary K Anbazhagan and leaders like A Raja, KN Nehru, Ponmudi, Duraimurugan, also visited the hospital. Karunanidhi was admitted to the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai on July 28 after a dip in his blood pressure caused alarm. President Ram Nath Kovind had on Sunday visited the five-time chief minister of Tamil Nadu at the hospital and wished him a speedy recovery. The President had also met Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi and son MK Stalin at the hospital.

On July 31, the hospital had said that the 94-year-old veteran politician’s stay would be extended due to age-related health issues. "Although there has been the resolution of the condition which led to his hospital admission, an extended period of hospitalisation will be necessary due to age-related overall decline in his general health, altered liver function, and haematological parameters," the hospital had said.

On July 29, there was a “setback on his clinical condition” owing to breathing difficulty. “He responded well to medical management and his vital signs are gradually normalised," the hospital’s statement had said. A number of politicians and prominent leaders, including Congress president Rahul Gandhi, have visited the hospital to inquire about the health of Karunanidhi.

Last week, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu too visited the hospital. On Saturday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister Suresh Prabhu visited him.
