Monika thanks mother for healing touch
(Sep 3, 2016, DG): When the world looks forward to the moment of Mother Teresa's canonization, Monika Besra (50) is spending time in prayer. She is thanking the almighty for what is happening now as she was the first person to experience the heavenly intervention of mother.

The Adivasi woman from West Bengal's Harirampur village suffered from stomach cancer 20 years ago. She had consulted many doctors but all those efforts went in vain. She led a depressed life as doctors had declared her incurable. At this juncture, her sister took her to the convent of missionaries of charity.

She describes the rest in own words. " It was back in 1998 and just one day before Mother Teresa's first death anniversary. Sisters took me to a chapel where mother's picture was placed. Soon, I found myself covered by a divine light that originated from the picture. Without knowing what was going on, I went back to bed. I prayed to Mother Teresa during that night. Suprisingly, pain didn't come to haunt me that night and I slept peacefully. The next morning had wonders in store for me. I woke up as a new person, feeling well. My pain was gone and this was unbelievable. Sisters took me to a doctor the same day itself. They declared the truth to me. I was completely cured of cancer."

Mother will be declared a saint on September 4. Monika and husband have decided to spend the whole day in prayer. She wont be able to participate in the event. But, she isn't dissappointed. She had the opportunity to share the healing episode with Saint John Paul II and other cardinals back in 2003, during a trip to Rome.
