(Nov 14, 2016, DG): When cash shortage has hit the whole nation like neverbefore, this parish under the Ernakulam Angamaly diocese has a solution in store !
Panic not, Vicar Fr. Jimmy Poochakkatt tells all believers as the donation box of St. Martin's church at Thevakkal is wide open for all.
The move has been widely applauded as people can now collect Rs.10 or 20 or 50 or 100 from the donation box, if they are finding it hard to stand in long queue infront of banks.
"After the central government's decision to abolish Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes in an unexpected move against blackmoney, many commoners approached me narrating their hardships. This is what made me think of this idea", says Fr. Jimmy.
Father announced his decision after yesterday's morning mass. Two donation boxes kept infront of saints' statues, below the altar, are now open to parishioners. For believers, this seems like a special blessing from heaven.
The vicar has asked people to return the money once the current issues are sorted out. He is sure that people would wholeheartedly obey his words. Truely, a model worthy of emulation !
