Breaking Stereotypes: 3,563 Government School Students Crack JEE Main

(Mar 2, 2018): Busting the myth about the quality and nature of education offered by the government schools, a massive number of 3,563 out of 9,757 students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) cracked Joint Entrance Examination 2017.

It was almost unbelievable to know that one student among them bagged an AIR of 23. This statement was officially made by JNV Commissioner BK Singh on Tuesday by the government-run school chain that provides education to students from rural background.

Check Here for Recommended Books for JEE Main Preparation

Clearing JEE Main provides students admission in premier engineering colleges such as National Institute of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institute Technology (IITs). However to secure a seat in an IIT, a student must also clear JEE Advanced, the second stage of JEE Main.

The commissioner further added that there were special classes organized for certain students at some schools in Bangalore, Bundi, Hyderabad, Kottayam and Lucknow. These classes were attended by 390 students out of which 381 students were successful in clearing JEE main examination, making the overall success rate of this program to be 98%.

JNV was started in the year 1985-86, having just two schools under the Human Resource Development Ministry, but now the school chain has expanded its networks with around 589 schools successfully established across the country.

This result has only been possible due to the various initiatives taken by the Government of India to promote education among backward classes or students with various financial constraints. Here are some of the measures taken by the government to improve and promote education among such masses.

Measures taken by government of India

The Indian government has been worried about the literacy levels of the country and has always taken measures to improve it. They have made schemes which are beneficial for students, belonging to both rural and urban background. In the recent years, they have managed to bring in a lot of students to schools with the help of these schemes. Let’s take a look at these schemes.

Free Education

This is a major step taken by the government of India to promote education. They have opened schools in various parts of the country, especially in the rural side, facilitating free education for all the students who attend schools. Along with free education, these schools offer free food to the students attending them. Parents from low economical background cannot afford to send their children to schools but the initiative has encouraged them to send their wards to attend schools.

Various Scholarship Schemes

The government offers various scholarship schemes to students who perform well in the examinations conducted by school. Some of these include Scheme of Pre-Matric Scholarships to the Other Backward Classes for education, Central Sector Scholarship Scheme of Top Class Education for Scheduled Caste Students, Corpus Fund Scheme to Maulana Azad Education Foundation to benefit the weaker and economically challenged section of the society and Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Tribes.

Various other schemes have been announced for girls to promote education among them. These have definitely been a help to students aspiring for higher education. Other than these schemes, the government also provides free books and uniform for the students, along with free mid-day meals.

Proper Utilization of Funds

The government has taken various steps to raise funds for the students to ensure that their education is not hindered. Sometimes it is seen that these funds do not reach the remote and rural areas where the students are really in need of them rather they are misused for other causes. However, the government is taking strict measures to ensure its prevention and the funds are properly utilized.
