NEET date announced: Read other important details here
(Dec 18, 2017): NEET is likely to be conducted on May 10, 2018 for admission into various medical courses in government and private medical institutions across the country. Aspirants can check the pre-requisites for NEET 2018 here.

National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) is conducted every year in the centralized manner in various cities across the country. NEET checks the basic eligibility of candidates aspiring to opt for an undergraduate course such as BDS and MBBS, or a postgraduate course such as MD and MS.

CBSE started conducting NEET from 2013 and replaced the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) and other individual MBBS exams that were conducted by various states or colleges. However, you may still find some medical colleges that conduct private examinations for admission to MBBS and BDS courses. So there is no compulsion as such.

Tentative Exam Date and Other Changes for NEET 2018

NEET 2017 was held on May 7 in ten languages and at 1921 examination centers in 103 cities which was taken by 11.4 Lakh candidates.

NEET 2018 application process is expected to begin in January 2018. Candidates will be allowed to submit the application only in online mode and not through any offline channel.

Also, there has been a change in the constraint of upper age of NEET 2018 applicants from the last time. The bar on age limit of 25 years is expected to be removed in NEET 2018, based on the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court.

You also need to note that the vernacular question papers (in various location languages) will just be the translation of the base English question paper of NEET 2018. So there will not be any change in the questions, particular to each set of exam across the country.

However, there has not been any change in the maximum number of allowed attempts, which is still limited to three. So in case you have already appeared in NEET for three times previously, you are not eligible to apply this time.

Changes in the Number of Languages:

NEET 2017 was conducted in six additional languages as per the direction by MHRD. The same will follow for NEET 2018. Other than the conventional Hindi and English, the new languages included are Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese, Telugu and Tamil.

NEET 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates aspiring for NEET 2018 should have passed class 12th in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology subjects, with at least 50% qualifying marks. For the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates, the qualifying marks is 40%, and the same for Persons with Disability (PWD) category candidates is 45%.

In case you are appearing in class 12th exams in 2018, you are eligible to apply. However, you will be required to prove the qualifying marks in class 12th at the time of your counselling.

Candidates applying for NEET 2018 should be at least 17 years of age at the time of applying for NEET 2018. Earlier, the upper age limit was restricted to 25 years which has been removed now.

NEET 2018 Exam Pattern

NEET 2018 will be paper and pen based. Candidates will need to attempt 180 questions within the duration of 3 hours. The questions asked will be objective type and cover topics from four subjects that are Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology.

Each of these subjects will be of 180 marks, so the whole exam will be of 720 marks. For every correct attempt, the candidates will be awarded four marks while one mark will be deducted for every incorrect attempt. The question paper will be in 8 languages that are Hindi, English, Tamil, Bengali, Assamese, Gujarati, Telugu and Marathi.

NEET 2018 Exam and Other Important Dates

The NEET 2018 application form will be available in January 2018 on the official website. The last date for form filling is expected to be in the fourth week of January 2018. In case you make some mistake in your particulars while filling the application form, NEET gives you one chance to make corrections, probably in the first week of February 2018.

The admit card of NEET 2018 will be released to be downloaded in the first week of April 2018. NEET 2018 is expected to be held on May 10, 2018 and results to be announced in the first week of June 2018. Those who clear the exam will have to attend the counselling post result declaration.
